Our vacation was wonderful! Croatia is a beautiful country and we haven't seen enough of it.
Having said that, we'll have to go back a few more times before we can see a lot of it! Our boys tend to not like going on excursions when we are on vacation. After an hour or so they usually start whining that they're tired, their legs hurt, their feet hurt, they're thirsty, they're hot.....they'll find any excuse to not have to walk and go back to the beach or pool!
Oh well, they're kids and they'll just have to learn! :-)
The drive to Croatia was long, but we spent a night in Austria to break the trip up and get some rest. 1300 km is not something to drive in one go with 2 kids in the car! Although I will say that they were pretty good in the car. Thank god for portable DVD players! I wonder what my parents did to keep us busy 30 years ago....
Driving through the mountains always makes me homesick. Not that I'm not home here, but I miss the mountains. I lived in Switzerland for 8 years and didn't appreciate it as much as I should have while I was there (I was a teenager, what can I say?!) and now I miss it.
So here's the first picture I took on vacation:
A picture of the mountains :-)
The next day we set off for Croatia. We only had 400 km left to drive, so that was nice.
We drove from Austria to Slovenia to Croatia. The drive was absolutely beautiful! First mountains and lots of forests then we caught a glimpse of the ocean and the beautiful Croatian landscape.....
We went camping for two weeks. It's a cheaper alternative to vacation and actually pretty fun. If you would have told me 20 years ago that I would like camping, I would have said you were crazy! I'm usually someone who likes my luxury, someone who doesn't want to walk I don't know how far to public toilets and showers..... But we've been going to campings for some years now, and I have grown to love it. It's all so much more relaxed, so easy-going.
We were very lucky to only have a minute walk to the toilets and showers (and they were very clean, always a good thing!) and a two-minute walk away from the bakery and the pool (which the boys loved).
As I said before, the boys don't like going on excursions. So we spent a lot of our time at the pool or the beach. But we also saw a lot of pretty little towns and went to the Brijuni islands.
In some of these little towns, I was surprised to see brand new beautiful houses next to deserted buildings. I even saw a building which still had bullet holes in it.
Croatia has become such a popular vacation place here in Europe. We forget that there was a war there not even that long ago.
So, here are some pictures:
T and I needed this vacation. The past few months were so busy and exhausting. We didn't have much time for each other and making time was also difficult.
Vacation was great for us! We spent a lot of time doing nothing, talking, just being together.
So, as a result to this great vacation, I am now in my first official 2WW in months. :-)
