September Photo Challenge

I've seen posts here and there about photo challenges.....

I'm pretty iPhone addicted, I have it with me all the time and am constantly taking pictures of everything and everyone and posting them on Instagram or FB.

So I was thinking that Emhart's September Photo Challenge might be fun.
Here are the prompts I'll be following....

Let's see what September brings us.....

Sunset

I finally got my sunset picture today.

I had seen pictures like this on many blogs I read and searched the internet to find who did this because I wanted one.
Then the waiting list was closed. But before our vacation the list finally opened again and today I got my picture.

A big thank you to Carly Marie Dudly over at Christian's Beach.

Our vacation

Our vacation was wonderful! Croatia is a beautiful country and we haven't seen enough of it.

Having said that, we'll have to go back a few more times before we can see a lot of it! Our boys tend to not like going on excursions when we are on vacation. After an hour or so they usually start whining that they're tired, their legs hurt, their feet hurt, they're thirsty, they're hot.....they'll find any excuse to not have to walk and go back to the beach or pool!
Oh well, they're kids and they'll just have to learn! :-)

The drive to Croatia was long, but we spent a night in Austria to break the trip up and get some rest. 1300 km is not something to drive in one go with 2 kids in the car! Although I will say that they were pretty good in the car. Thank god for portable DVD players! I wonder what my parents did to keep us busy 30 years ago....
Driving through the mountains always makes me homesick. Not that I'm not home here, but I miss the mountains. I lived in Switzerland for 8 years and didn't appreciate it as much as I should have while I was there (I was a teenager, what can I say?!) and now I miss it.
So here's the first picture I took on vacation:
A picture of the mountains :-)

The next day we set off for Croatia. We only had 400 km left to drive, so that was nice.
We drove from Austria to Slovenia to Croatia. The drive was absolutely beautiful! First mountains and lots of forests then we caught a glimpse of the ocean and the beautiful Croatian landscape.....

We went camping for two weeks. It's a cheaper alternative to vacation and actually pretty fun. If you would have told me 20 years ago that I would like camping, I would have said you were crazy! I'm usually someone who likes my luxury, someone who doesn't want to walk I don't know how far to public toilets and showers..... But we've been going to campings for some years now, and I have grown to love it. It's all so much more relaxed, so easy-going.
We were very lucky to only have a minute walk to the toilets and showers (and they were very clean, always a good thing!) and a two-minute walk away from the bakery and the pool (which the boys loved).

As I said before, the boys don't like going on excursions. So we spent a lot of our time at the pool or the beach. But we also saw a lot of pretty little towns and went to the Brijuni islands.
In some of these little towns, I was surprised to see brand new beautiful houses next to deserted buildings. I even saw a building which still had bullet holes in it.
Croatia has become such a popular vacation place here in Europe. We forget that there was a war there not even that long ago.

So, here are some pictures:

T and I needed this vacation. The past few months were so busy and exhausting. We didn't have much time for each other and making time was also difficult.
Vacation was great for us! We spent a lot of time doing nothing, talking, just being together.

So, as a result to this great vacation, I am now in my first official 2WW in months. :-)

Home

Just a quick post....
We are home from our wonderful vacation in Croatia.

We had a fabulous 2 weeks. Time for us, for the boys....enjoying the sun (very hot at times), the beach, the beautiful things to see and especially each other's company.

Now I get to play catch-up with everyone's blogs. Can't wait to read all the posts I've missed!!

Vacation!!!!

Croatia, here we come!

Our bags are packed. The car is almost packed. I just have a few last things to get together and then we will be ready for our vacation!!! YAY!!!

We'll be leaving early tomorrow morning, sleeping in Austria tomorrow and arriving in Croatia Thursday early afternoon.

I won't have internet access there (at least it wasn't mentioned on the camping website) and I learned my lesson last year to not use my 3G when abroad (I had a HUGE invoice at the end of that month, not good).
So this is my last post for the next 2 weeks. I will also not be able to read other blogs for the next 2 weeks. (Who would have ever thought that that would bother me more than not being able to check FB for the next 2 weeks?!)

Maybe not having internet is not such a bad thing. I'm slightly addicted to my iPhone and laptop and probably spend way too much time on them.
So this will be 2 weeks for us. For the boys. For me and T.
Time for us to spend together, doing nothing, playing games, reading (I stocked up on books last week, can't wait to start reading them!!), enjoying the little things.....No tv, no internet, no laptops, no Wii.....just us.

I hope everyone can enjoy their summer as much as I am and will the coming weeks!!!

Rainbow

Our vacation has started. It has been great so far, and we haven't even left yet! :-)

On Saturday we took the boys to the movies.
On Sunday we spent the day at the beach and had a wonderful dinner after a sunny fun-filled day.
Today we went to an amusement park in Holland.

We had a rain shower on the way back to the car tonight. We were soaking wet.
Once we had left the park and the parking lot, it started clearing up a bit and I saw this:

A beautiful rainbow. And even a faint second rainbow.

Then we turned onto the highway, I turned around to say something to the boys and saw the rainbow on the other side of the car too!
I have NEVER seen something like this! It was the most beautiful thing EVER!!

I made T stop the car on the shoulder of the highway so I could take these pictures. I wasn't able to get the whole thing in one picture, but I did my best :-)

When I first saw the rainbow, I thought of MissConception and her rainbow sightings.

When I saw the whole thing, I thought of Dylan. Of how Dylan was there with us today, with the whole family.
We would have loved to have been able to take you to that park one day Dylan. Know that you were there with us, in our hearts.
